‘Avatar 2’, ‘3’ and ‘4’ are All Shooting This Fall… All at Once According to Sigourney Weaver

There is hardly a lot to actually report here outside of what the headline includes other than to say Sigourney Weaver has confirmed with Showbiz 411 that James Cameron will begin shooting Avatar 2, Avatar 3 and Avatar 4 all at the same time, all with her, and starting this fall. As far as anything more, Weaver tells Roger Friedman at Showbiz, “I just show up.”

This seems to continue the thought Cameron relayed to the “New York Times” back in early May, telling the paper, “I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4… the point is I think within the Avatar landscape I can say everything I need to say that I think needs to be said, in terms of the state of the world and what I think we need to be doing about it… and doing it in an entertaining way.”

To this point we know Cameron intends to explore the oceans of Pandora with his next film. Also in the same “Times” piece he seemed to imply much of the writing is underway and perhaps some is complete as they entered “the design stage” as they set up “the new stages in Los Angeles, setting up the new visual effects pipeline in New Zealand” and have “spent the last year and a half on software development and pipeline development.”

Your guess is as good as mine as to where this all ends up, but anticipated schedules seem to imply we’ll get Avatar 2 in December 2014, Avatar 3 in December 2015 and if Avatar 4 is indeed a reality I guess we can expect that December 2016. For now, this is all we have to work with outside of bits and bobs here and there. Make of it what you will.
