Sam Worthington recently previewed a scene from Avatar 4 that justifies a fourth installment. His comments not only hint at the film’s scope but also suggest that the fourth movie will change how fans view the franchise.
Avatar 4 has a breath-taking sequence that Sam Worthington just talked about
During his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sam Worthington briefly spoke about Avatar 4. He explained that James Cameron had written the scripts for the fourth and fifth Avatar films and that he had read them, although production had not yet begun.
Worthington recalled reading the script for the fourth film about 10 years earlier. “It has one of the best sequences I’ve ever seen in a movie. Even in the last 10 years, I haven’t seen anything like it,” he said.
It’s not all about the epic action sequences in Avatar 4, though. The Terminator Salvation star said the filmmaker has evolved the love story between his character, Jake Sully, and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldaña, to a whole new level. He added that if they get to continue the franchise, it would be more of a saga than just a series of sequels.
The 49-year-old agreed with Fallon that Cameron is always the first to do something different. “[Avatar 4] is completely that. It completely changes the whole kind of idea of what Avatar is,” he explained.
James Cameron’s Avatar has been one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood history. It has become a landmark in visual effects, with every installment winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. For the upcoming sequels, the filmmaker said on The Empire Film Podcast that they are looking into “new technologies to try to do them more efficiently.”
Moreover, with just three films, the franchise has grossed $6.6 billion at the global box office. The first two installments crossed the $2 billion mark. However, the latest entry, Avatar: Fire and Ash, made roughly $1.49 billion worldwide against a reported $400 million budget.
The franchise also stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, Britain Dalton, Jack Champion, and Trinity Bliss, among others. All three Avatar films are currently available to stream on Disney+.
