Line ’em up! Have a look at the final poster for The Expendables 2 in which Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins and Yu Nan all vie for some face time whilst the world behind them explodes into tiny pieces.
Okay, I take that back Adkins and Nan aren’t included, but I think you get my drift and after seeing the first one I’m a bit concerned this one is going to suffer from the size of its ensemble even more than the last one, which boiled down to nothing more than explosions and killing in such a way that you just didn’t care.
Hitting theaters on August 17, the film follows the returning team of mercenaries on a new mission during which one of their own is killed, turning the flick into a revenge feature.
For the story to really work I would think they’d need to kill off Stallone’s Barney Ross to get the audience invested, but their likely to instead kill off a peripheral character we know very little about. Then again, we don’t really know anything about any of these guys. If I remember the first one correctly, only Statham’s Lee Christmas character got any kind of legitimate back-story in the original pic.
Oh well, I know most people just want to see these guys on the screen together shooting things with explosions all around them. That, you’re pretty much guaranteed will take place.
