There are apparently now two post credit sequences for The Avengers, the first comes relatively quickly and has been attached to screenings from the start. I won’t spoil that one, but I will say that if you’re interested in knowing more I will give you this link.
As for the second scene, well I’m sure you read about the cast heading off to shoot another scene for the film back in mid-April and at the time it was assumed it would simply be a post-credits sequence and it turns out that’s exactly the case.
While I won’t explain what leads to the situation, a reader over at SuperheroHype has revealed the contents of this new scene and it isn’t much, but for those of you that have seen The Avengers already you’ll get the joke:
After the battle, the Avengers team sitting quietly with no dialogue eating shawarma. Stark was not in his suit. Banner wasn’t Hulked out.
So, when you see The Avengers this weekend, on top of seeing the new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man before the film, be sure to stick around after the film for a couple of additional treats.
