New Bond Film Officially Titled ‘Skyfall’ as All Rumors Prove True

This morning EON Productions, MGM and Sony Pictures held a press conference and issued a press release announcing the start of production on Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film to be directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig in his third turn as James Bond. Judi Dench will return as M and she and Craig will be joined by new cast members Naomie Harris will play a field agent called Eve who apparently will become the new Miss Moneypenny (source), Javier Bardem will play the film’s lead villain and they will be joined by new Bond girl Berenice Marlohe playing the glamorous, enigmatic character called Severin**, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw.

It was additionally revealed Roger Deakins, who previously shot Jarhead and Revolutionary Road with Mendes, will serve as the film’s director of photography.

The title treatment as you can see above was also revealed (get a larger look here) along with the synopsis telling us in Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M (Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Production will get underway on Monday, November 7 and filming will take place in London (including Pinewood Studios), Whitehall, Scotland, Istanbul, China and Turkey. Skyfall will begin its worldwide release in the UK and Ireland on October 26, 2012 and in North America on November 9, 2012.
