One film I’ll be sure to check out at Cannes is the 2011 Sundance hit Martha Marcy May Marlene starring Elizabeth Olsen (sister of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen) as Martha, a character the official synopsis describes as “a damaged woman haunted by her memories and increasing paranoia, who struggles to re-assimilate with her family after fleeing a cult.”
The film was coincidentally just rated R and it boasts a pretty strong rating when taken into consideration with the plot synopsis as it earned that rating for disturbing violent and sexual content, nudity and language. Fox Searchlight is set to release the film stateside on October 7.
Check out the trailer below and see if it promises a film worthy of the Sundance buzz where the film’s director, Sean Durkin, won the Dramatic Directing Award.
