I waited as long as I could for the theater counts to come in on 127 Hours and Black Swan. Eventually, I had to make a few educated guesses, but I’d suggest you check them before making your final calls. Luckily, there’s some clarity at the top of the charts, let’s break this thing down!

2. The Tourist
This will draw in the older crowd, but I’m not sure the teen demo sees Jolie as anything more than tabloid fodder. Salt nearly hit $10k per theater, and Public Enemies was around $8k so this $6500 per call is certainly conservative.
Prediction: $17.91 million
3. Tangled
$260m has now been listed as the production budget, as such they’ll need somewhere north of $600m worldwide to think about profit. It stands at $145m right now. Not ideal, which is a shame, as it was a fun film.
On a side note, that $260 million takes into account years of development so I’m sure Disney has more than one number in mind when it comes to what they’ll take when trying to figure out if this is a true success from a financial standpoint. From an audience and critical standpoint I’d say it has already proven its worth.
Prediction: $11.76 million
Well, at least it will pass Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on the domestic charts, though hitting $300m in the states isn’t looking probable.
Prediction: $7.67 million
The budget was a reasonable $30m, so it was certainly worth a shot given Zwick’s ability.
Prediction: $3.39 million
7. Burlesque
This cost $25m more than Love and Other Drugs. I assume most of that was spent on skin-tight outfits?
Prediction: $3.3 million
8. Megamind
Nine of the top ten 3-D films of all-time were made in 2009 and 2010. This wasn’t one of them.
Prediction: $2.52 million
9. Due Date
My one complaint would be the lack of comedy. Still, they’ve made money on it.
Prediction: $2.25 million
10. 127 Hours
A complete shot in the dark, as Faster could grab this slot. Black Swan won’t have enough theaters. The interesting thing about 127 Hours is that they are attempting a Slumdog Millionaire style roll-out, but while 127 Hours is expanding more quickly, it’s not sustaining the per theater averages of Boyle’s previous work. Which has to trouble them a bit.
Prediction: $2.01 million
