I caught this comment over the weekend, but I was too busy doing my best to avoid working over the holidays to worry about it. However, I didn’t forget about it entirely.
Apparently Michael Bay has done a complete 180 when it comes to his opinion of 3D and his ability to work with the format when it comes to his upcoming film Transformers: Dark of The Moon, but rumors have sprouted up citing problems in the editing booth and Bay took to his forum to set the record straight.
Here’s what he had to say:
Wow, I read these morons on the internet who think they are in the know. “We have have problems with our 3D????†Really? Come into my edit room and I will show you beautiful 3D. There has never been a live action show that has pushed the boundaries of 3D like Transformers 3. We shot the entire movie with 3D cameras. I actually loved shooting in 3D.
I will give full details of my process and why I liked 3D in the next week right before the Transformers announcement piece comes out on Tron and Narnia.
And don’t watch this movie in 2D, we made it for 3D.

This, of course, means Bay is pulling back from his previous statement when he said his way of shooting “is too aggressive for 3D cameras”. I’m also sure many of you remember when he said, “3D? I don’t know… I might be old school. I think it might be a gimmick… The way I shoot is too aggressive for 3D cameras. It’s a time consuming thing. Who knows… It might be a fad. I’m kinda old school. I’m old school because I like to shoot on film. I like anamorphic lenses, and that is old school.”
Make way for Transformers: Dark of The Moon, the old school, gimmicky fad of 2011!
I’m kidding, and hope Transformers 3 will finally be the Transformers film I hoped the first one would be, but this is just another sign some of these public figures should probably be a little more careful in choosing their words before they end up eating them later on.
As for the announcement piece he mentions, I guess we should expect our first teaser trailer sometime around December 10, which is when The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader hits theaters.
