Trailers for ‘The Company Men,’ ‘Buried’ and ‘Stone’

Yahoo has debuted the trailer for the corporate downsizing feature The Company Men starring Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Rosemarie DeWitt, Chris Cooper, Maria Bello and Craig T. Nelson. The film is the feature directorial debut of “ER” producer/writer/director John Wells and while it received decent reviews from Sundance earlier this year, it was also compared to Up In the Air, which means it’s going to have to play really well on October 22 if it wants to stick around for award consideration.

Plenty of potential Oscar contenders are getting their first looks recently, how does this one stack up for you?

Next is the trailer for Stone starring Robert De Niro, Edward Norton and Milla Jovovich and directed by John Curran (The Painted Veil). Overture picked up the film for distribution, and I’m not getting a very good vibe off of how it sort of landed there as opposed to actually being sought out.

The film sounds relatively generic as it centers on a ruthless convict (Norton) who engages in a series of disturbing mental games with his corrections officer (De Niro) in an attempt to gain parole. When the officer begins an affair with the convicts wife (Jovovich), it soon becomes clear that both the convict and officers motivations are suspect, provoking a dangerous ordeal.

Considering the cast it could be decent, but I’m not getting my hopes up. Overture will release the film on October 8… that is if hit hasn’t been sold and renamed by then.

Stone

Finally, Lionsgate has released the theatrical trailer for its boy-in-a-box Sundance pick-up Buried starring Ryan Reynolds as said boy and he’s buried 6 feet underground with service from AT&T poor cell phone reception and a lighter. Reviews were pretty good out of Sundance and I’m sure Lionsgate expects a modest return, but I’m just not feeling this one… You?

Buried hits theaters on September 24 before expanding nationwide October 8th.
