If ‘Conan’ Didn’t Have a Distributor I’m Not Sure It Could Get One…

So, some first look images have arrived on the Internet for Lionsgate’s Conan remake starring Jason Momoa as the title character and directed by Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th and Pathfinder) and to no surprise, they look awful. Perhaps what is surprising is the idea anyone out there could possibly expect anything more considering the original Arnold Schwarzenegger movie was just about as bad as that pic above looks.

The images arrive via ConanMovieBlog and Uruloki and depict Momoa as a giant sword wielding barbarian battling the elements and screaming atop his favorite cliffside.

Based on Robert E. Howard’s creation, Conan co-stars Bob Sapp, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Said Taghmaoui and Rose McGowan and tells the origin story that sets the stage for what is currently planned to be the first of multiple films.

The film is currently expected to hit theaters some time this year, but considering these images and the fact it’s being released by Lionsgate I am thinking a January or February 2011 release sounds just about right. Fitting it right there in the armpit of the release schedule will probably suit this film just fine.

I have added both images to the RopeofSilicon gallery, so click here if you want a slightly larger look at each, but I won’t blame you if you simply move on.
