Oyelowo Will Play Rev. King, McGowan Joins ‘Conan’ and Sigourney’s a Vampire

David Oyelowo is Martin Luther King: Lee Daniels (Precious) continues to fill out the cast of Selma and today we learn David Oyelowo (Red Tails) will be taking on the role of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Oyelowo joins Hugh Jackman and Lenny Kravitz in the civil rights film in which Jackman plays a racist sheriff in the tale revolving around the historic marches staged by King in 1965 in Selma, Alabama. While previous reports had led us to believe Robert De Niro was confirmed for the role of Alabama Gov. George Wallace, it now appears those reports may have been false or De Niro just hasn’t officially signed on yet. [THR]

McGowan Rounds Out Conan Cast: It appears casting for Marcus Nispel’s Conan is complete as Rose McGowan has joined the cast as an evil half-human/half-witch and filming is underway at Nu Boyana Studios, producer Nu Image’s facility in Sofia, Bulgaria. Jason Momoa will play the title role in the film based on the Robert E. Howard books centering on the mythical hero driven to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village. Evans Joins Puncture: While Chris Evans is one of many up for the lead role in The First Avenger: Captain America, he is confirmed to star in Puncture for Adam and Mark Kassen. The script was written by Chris Lopta and revolves around a drug-addicted lawyer (Evans) who sues a healthcare company. Vinessa Shaw, Mark Kassen, Brett Cullen, Jesse L. Martin, Michael Biehn, Kate Burton, Tess Parker and Marshall Bell round out the cast. [Variety]

Weaver to Play Queen Vampire in Heckerling’s Vamps: Sigourney Weaver has signed on to star as a vampire queen in Vamps, a romantic horror-comedy from Amy Heckerling (Clueless). The film is a modern-day story focusing on beautiful young vampires (Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter) who are living the good nightlife in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality. Production is scheduled to begin in late April. [Heat Vision]

Fright Night Remake Gets Gillespie: Lars and the Real Girl helmer Craig Gillespie is set to helm the DreamWorks redo of the cult horror pic Fright Night. Marti Noxon wrote the script, adapted from the 1985 original which revolved around a teen who finds out his neighbor is a vampire. [Variety]
