The 2009 RopeofSilicon Movie Awards and Full Recap

BEST TRAILER
Star Trek

Without a doubt. No contest. Best mix of music, images and dialogue. Makes me want to watch the film every time I see it.

RUNNER-UP
A Serious Man

I can’t wait to watch this one again and this trailer is making me crave the February 9 DVD and Blu-ray release.

A List of Anticipated Movies of 2010: (in alphabetical order, all links point to their corresponding page on RopeofSilicon.com)

  • The Adjustment Bureau – George Nolfi co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum and this is his directorial debut starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt adapted from a Philip K. Dick short story
  • The American – I can’t wait to see how Anton Corbijn follows up Control. (No, Linear doesn’t count)
  • Clash of the Titans – I loved the original and am hoping for the best
  • The Conspirator – Redford tackles the Lincoln assassination
  • The Cross – This near future film from Andrew Niccol (Lord of War) just sounds particularly intriguing
  • The Debt – Just click the link and read all about John Madden’s next one and look at the cast and tell me you aren’t looking forward to this one too.
  • The Eagle of the Ninth – This could be bad, but Kevin Macdonald inspires hope (Channing Tatum does not)
  • Edge of Darkness – Could be one hell of a flick. Comparisons to Taken are already being made and that sounds good to me.
  • Fish Tank – Lots of good buzz for this one out of festivals and the trailer looks great
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I – Love that Potter!
  • Inception – Chris Nolan’s next has got to be anticipated by everyone… right?
  • Iron Man 2 – Ditto
  • The Killer Inside Me – My excitement for this one is based solely on people’s response to this promo trailer. I haven’t watched it just for that reason and am trusting popular opinion.
  • London Boulevard – William Monahan’s (screenwriter of The Departed) directorial debut starring Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley and Ray Winstone.
  • Mother – Lots of good buzz on Joon-ho Bong’s (The Host) latest.
  • Piranha 3-D – Could be one hell of a fun time at the cinema. Will they screen it for critics?
  • Robin Hood – I haven’t watched the trailer yet, but people say, “Looks like Gladiator.” Sounds good to me.
  • Salt – Noyce, Jolie, action. I’m there.
  • The Social Network – The little bit about the start-up of Facebook I have read has me intrigued and my faith is in Fincher.
  • The Town – Ben Affleck’s directorial follow-up to Gone Baby Gone. Yeah, I’m anxious to check this one out for sure.
  • True Grit – The Coen brothers remake a classic and they must have good reason to do so. Bring it on.

And that pretty much does it. I still have to bring you a 2010 preview as I am sure the above list of films isn’t going to suffice, but for now I would say this should keep you busy and I hope you liked what I brought to the table. Please add your comments regarding any of the topics and awards listed and be sure to add what films, actors, directors, trailers, posters, etc. you would have awarded in all the categories listed in the comments below!
