The Chicago Tribune has a cool little video feature on how the Oscar statuettes are made by R.S. Owens & Company. It lets us know that each Oscar is made of Britannia pewter-alloy, then they get a dip in copper, then a dip in nickel, then silver flash and then finally 24 carat gold. Apparently it takes about 20 hours to make each statue as each one is made by hand.
