Box-Office Wrap-Up: Mar. 28 – Mar. 30, 2008

Yeah, I nailed the top movie but I take no joy in that. I should have seen the trend – no one wanted to see Superhero Movie whereas everyone I talked to was a little interested in 21.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 9 Weeks In A Row
1. 21
It raked it in… but look for a healthy fall next weekend. Not because of stiff competition, there is none, but because it’s not a very good movie. Some would even call it “bad.”
Result: 23.7 million (My rank: #1, $6.5m off)
I underrated Who!. I also overrated the dog in third place. Curses.
Result: 17.4 million (My rank: #3, $3.6m off)
You can never tell with this stupid franchise but I should have guessed based on the marketing budget. There wasn’t much except for in the last week. I just wish this whole idea would go away.
Result: 9.5 million (My rank: #2, $5.3m off)
Wow. This dropped like a brick. Tyler Perry has nice opening weekends and then *poof*. Like Kaiser Soze he’s gone.
Result: 7.7 million (My rank: #4, $5.6m off)
I’m not going to feel bad about this one. As B-Luv himself pointed out, it’s astounding that people are even seeing this at all.
Result: 5.8 million (My rank: #6, $.9m off)
Stop-Loss is burning me. They did a ton of press this week but they couldn’t change the fact the movie audiences want escape, not war.
Result: 5.3 million (My rank: #7, $.5m off)
Again, not a terrible projection, but Channing Tatum has absolutely ruined my board.
Result: 4.8 million (My rank: #8, $.5m off)
Is it wrong to only blame Tatum? Certainly. But when less than half a million dollars costs you your board you get a little feisty.
Result: 4.5 million (My rank: #5, $.6m off)
I had Run Fatboy Run here. It finished a healthy 13th. Ouch.
Result: 3.5 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
Okay, okay, it was a rough weekend. Luckily I don’t take these types of failure personally… or else I’d never get out of bed.
Result: 2.8 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
