Fox Moving Forward with ‘The A-Team’

The only reason I am mildly interested in Fox adaptation of the 1980s television show “The A-Team” is due to the fact that they have John Singleton directing it. Granted, Singleton has been out of the game since he directed Four Brothers in 2005 and before that 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003, but the guy isn’t going to bring us a traditional bubble gum film with no substance, at least I don’t think so.

The flick which has already garnered some attention from Ice Cube when he told MTV, “I don’t wanna make a two-hour TV show… I wanna make a hardcore movie with these characters you remember, but I’m not trying to be Mr. T. I’m not going to wear all the gold and all that stuff. I think that’s his thing. I’m gonna bring my flavor to the role. We’re taking it to the big screen so it’s something different.”

It is not certain Cube will take on the role as B.A. Baracus, but he obviously has been in talks with Singleton. The film itself, is set to explore the exploits of Hannibal Smith and his team of former special forces soldiers, who have been set up for a crime they didn’t commit. The script was penned by Wanted and 3:10 to Yuma scripters Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.

The A-Team is set for release on June 12, 2009 and is currently only facing “competition” from Eddie Murphy’s Nowhereland. Casting should be expected shortly.
