The entire controversy started after M. Night Shyamalan posted an AI-generated image on his X handle. The picture showed him in the guise of a knight with NBA player LeBron James. M. Night Shyamalan has not explained why he decided to post this image.

The online backlash became intense after Shyamalan posted an AI-generated image on X depicting himself dressed as a medieval knight alongside NBA superstar LeBron James. While the director offered no caption or explanation for the post, fans quickly flooded the post, expressing their opinion. The timing of the post was striking, coming just hours after LeBron’s historic $8 million contract signing with the 76ers.

A lot of his followers were upset with the fact that he used an AI image. They expressed disappointment at such an act.

Shyamalan has developed a huge fan following in the last three decades with his films that include surprising twists in their plots. He entered the film industry with the movie The Sixth Sense in 1999 before making such successful movies as Signs, Unbreakable, Split, and Trap. However, not all of his movies were equally appreciated by his critics and viewers.

Shyamalan is directing Remain, a supernatural romance film based on an original concept co-created alongside bestselling author Nicholas Sparks. This movie includes actors Jake Gyllenhaal, Phoebe Dynevor, and Ashley Walters and is expected to be released in February 2027.

It was originally set to release in October 2026 but was postponed later. Warner Bros. decided to shift the film release to February 5, 2027, targeting the Valentine’s Day box office window.
