Buscemi and Bruehl Join ‘John Rabe’

Why am I writing this article? Because aside from ten gagillion DVDs I have to review there isn’t shit else to talk about. So, here’s the word… Steve Buscemi and Daniel Bruehl have joined the cast of John Rabe for director Florian Gallenberger based on the true story of a German businessman who saved more than 200,000 Chinese during the Nanjing assacre in 1937-38.

Pic also stars France’s Anne Consigny, Chinese stars Lu Huang and Zhang Jingchu; as well as Japan’s Teruyuki Kagawa and Akira Emoto. German actor Ulrich Tukur portrays Rabe, who, as a Nazi party member and Siemens executive, was able to create a safety zone within the city to protect civilians from Japanese atrocities, which claimed the lives of an estimated 300,000 civilians.

The best part of that last paragraph is, if you are like me, you are completely lost and wondering who the hell those people are.

The pic began shooting in Shanhair last week and Buscemi will play real-life American Dr. Robert Wilson, who remained in Nanjing during the occupation to care for legions of victims.
