Ribisi Joins Cameron’s ‘Avatar’

Giovanni Ribisi is a favorite of mine. He’s a kick ass actor that really has not been looked after too well. CAA is listed as his talent agency on IMDb, but I will be damned if I would stick with them after they got me work in Perfect Stranger, which was perfect shit. However, they scored for him this time around as Ribisi is set to join what is likely to be 2009’s biggest film, James Cameron’s Avatar.

Ribisi joins a cast including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez and will play a passive-aggressive character named Selfridge in the Fox film about a band of humans pitted against a distant planet’s indigenous inhabitants. Like we haven’t all been there and done that!

The budget on Avatar is already being reported at $190 million and is Cameron’s first feature directorial effort since Titanic in 1997. It’s been a while and to say we expect a lot is an understatement. The pic is set for a May 22, 2009 release, and features a blend of live-action photography and new virtual photorealistic production techniques invented by Cameron’s team. The film features six computer-generated actors known as “synthespians” and is in production in Los Angeles and next month starts production in New Zealand at Weta Digital.
