Halloween did well this weekend which proves my theory that people want to see movies no matter what time of the year it is. Why not start giving us movies worth watching every week instead of loading up the summer and holiday seasons? Once I run my studio I promise you people something great every weekend. Bet on it.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Six Weeks In A Row
1. Halloween
I had it around $30m before I looked at the historical Labor Day results. They weren’t good. But then again the movies being released weren’t very good either. It seems to be some sort of cause and effect. This requires further study.
Result: $31.0 million (My rank: #1, $6.1m off)
2. Superbad
I wonder why they’ve staggered the international release dates into October for Superbad. On that note, does anyone understand why some movies are released the same day internationally while others are delayed months? There seems to be no logic behind it.
Result: $15.6 million (My rank: #3, $2.7m off)
It’s good that it didn’t do very well. That means we’re all on the same page again.
Result: $13.8 million (My rank: #2, $2.4m off)
Labor Day weekend was very kind to Jason Bourne. I had this missing double digits but clearly when people think labor they also think highly trained assassins.
Result: $13.1 million (My rank: #4, $3.3m off)
5. Rush Hour 3
Three million light on this too. It’s a trend. I also wonder what the heck happened to Death Sentence. I’m sure we’ll find out together soon.
Result: $10.3 million (My rank: #6, $3.0m off)
But not yet. This was stronger by a smidge and well over two million hearty Americans have taken this one in. If you see one of them send them my way, I’m doing a study.
Result: $8.1 million (My rank: #8, $1.3m off)
I just caught Scarlett Jo on a “Saturday Night Live” summer repeat and she was decent. However, I still think the starlet “SNL” crown still belongs to Lohan with her Hermione impression back in day.
Result: $6.3 million (My rank: #9, $1.9m off)
Why was this even released? It was clearly a sacrificial lamb, no ad dollars, no awareness, no hope. It’s so odd how many projects are left for dead after good money is spent to produce them.
Result: $5.2 million (My rank: #5, $2.8m off)
9. War
Well finally, one I was too high on. Clearly no one wanted to see War this weekend. I guess it was just too artsy of a film for people to take in.
Result: $5.1 million (My rank: #7, $2.0m off)
10. Stardust
I went ten for ten! They weren’t in order, and my dollars were all jacked up, but Stardust saved me from the humiliation of having to type out “not ranked.” In a weird coincidence my bud Dre just texted me that he saw it this weekend and liked it. See? Me, Dre, B-Luv, this one has more supporters than Mitt Romney.
Result: $3.9 million (My rank: #10, $1.1m off)
