Wow. I didn’t see that coming. The Simpsons Movie hit like a freight train this weekend, much to my chagrin. No wait, I’m not chagrined, just taken aback. But $70m can’t be wrong, can it?
#1 movie predicted correctly: One Week In A Row
Ok, that’s admittedly nasty. In my defense no one saw The Simpsons opening this big, and it should fall pretty hard in weekend two.
Result: $71.8 million (My rank: #1, $29.3m off)
They’ve got to call a 44% drop a win, considering that a rom-com and tv com were also on the board. The key thing to note is that I nailed this one, getting back to normalcy around here.
Result: $19.0 million (My rank: #2, $.8m off)
See that? After being off a kajillion dollars I’ve now bounced back nicely. Sidenote: I met with the Comingsoon.net predictor, Ed Douglas, at Comic Con. He’s good, but I whupped him on Harry Potter.
Result: $17.0 million (My rank: #3, $.2m off)
4. Hairspray
This title featured the lowest bleed of the top five, and at $63.5 worldwide they’ve got to be very pleased with this performance.
Result: $15.5 million (My rank: #4, $.7m off)
Five for the top five… can this streak of greatness continue? I haven’t looked yet but I’m betting against myself.
Result: $11.7 million (My rank: #5, $1.3m off)
6. Transformers
I had both #5 and #6 exactly $1.3m off. That’s about 150,000 people extra per movie, so I clearly am all jacked up where 300k Americans are concerned.
Result: $11.5 million (My rank: #6, $1.3m off)
7. Ratatouille
It looks like I was just a bit low on everything. Well, everything except The Simpsons where I misplaced four million fans somewhere. Probably my den.
Result: $7.2 million (My rank: #7, $.7m off)
I’m so happy for the Die Hard franchise. But they’d better make the next one real soon so they don’t end up CGing Bruce’s parts.
Result: $5.3 million (My rank: #8, $1.4m off)
Wow, I’m going to go ten for ten in the top ten which I don’t ever think I’ve done. This is a cause for celebration. My reward? A flight back to Seattle and then collapsing into my bed.
Result: $3.4 million (My rank: #9, $.2m off)
The best part is that B-Luv had to enter this movie into the database because it finished tenth this weekend. Plus, I called it finishing tenth and he was hoping I was off. Yep, it’s a good weekend all around, and with my new lessons learned at Comic Con you can expect great things from The Oracle going forward.
Result: $2.9 million (My rank: #10, $.8m off)
