AFI Announces Its Top Films and Shows of 2006

I will be one of the first to say that I loved The Departed, but all this Oscar talk has me baffled. Yeah, I think Scorsese deserves an Oscar, but to give him one for a film that is nowhere near as some of his other work just because he doesn’t have one yet. However, it looks like Dreamgirls is the frontrunner to steal any of The Departed‘s Best Picture chances and the American Film Institue has just weighed in with its opinion on the top film and TV programs of the year and The Departed isn’t even on it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it is Best Picture of the year, but it certainly is in the top 10. You also have to love the inclusion of “South Park” in best TV shows of the year, now that is some worthy recognition.
