As June 1 marks the official start of hurricane season it also is the day we learn that Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to the post-Hurricane Katrina drama Hurricane Season, a pitch based on an upcoming documentary that producer Franklin Martin wrote, directed and produced titled “Walking on Dead Fish.”
The film will tell the true story of the football team at East St. John High School, located just outside New Orleans. The team struggled with integrating displaced students from surrounding high school teams and tried to help rebuild their community following Katrina.
Producer Mark Gordon took notice of the documentary Martin was working on about the team and brought it to Universal with an eye to turn it into a feature film.
