‘The Future Is Bright’: Alan Ritchson Gives Most Hopeful Update Yet on DCU Batman Casting

Alan Ritchson has shared a “bright” update on the DCU Batman casting. The acclaimed actor is mostly known for playing the titular character in the hit TV series Reacher.

What did Alan Ritchson say about potentially playing Batman in the DCU?

While Robert Pattinson is the caped crusader in a standalone universe created by Matt Reeves, the DCU has yet to find its Bruce Wayne/Batman for The Brave and the Bold film. So far, various unverified rumors have linked several actors to the role, including Alan Ritchson.

Last year, Ritchson revealed that he had a conversation with DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn about Batman casting. “I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman,” he said. Now, the actor has shared another update regarding the DCU’s Batman casting.

During his recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Ritchson shared another update. He said, “James Gunn and I have spoken, a lot.” The Reacher star added, “There’s so much to unpack here that you don’t even know. You don’t know what you’re asking for.”

Ritchson mentioned that he admires Gunn a lot and “would like to do something with James. James would like to do something with me. But my litmus test for what I will take is strict. I pick the shit out of projects. I know how to develop a project. Anything I do with DC will still meet my standards, it’ll have to meet my standards.”

He continued, “I hope that we work on something that feels like we’re all making the movie I’d be proud of… There could be a bright future for us, and there have been a lot of conversations.”

When the host asked whether he had a DC character in mind, he answered, “Yes.” But when Horowitz said, “And it’s not Batman,” Ritchson replied, “The future is bright, and the horizons are broad. Anything is possible for any of us.”

Besides Ritchson, other renowned Hollywood stars are also rumored to be in the race for DCU’s Batman. Earlier this month, The Westies’ Tom Brittney was asked about the speculation. Instead of giving a definitive answer, though, the actor responded, “No comment. I know nothing. Just lovely wonderful rumors.”

As for The Brave and the Bold movie, it has yet to receive an official release window.
