Most superhero movies, including MCU, leave a ton of deleted scenes on the cutting floor before their theatrical premiere. Spider-Man: Brand New Day seems to have taken a detour from this trend. In a recent interview, director Destin Daniel Cretton opened up about the content his team had to cut. He revealed that the movie’s assembly cut was already very close to the final version.

While speaking with Collider’s Steven Weintraub, the Shang-Chi director confirmed that, unlike most superhero projects, his upcoming Spider-Man feature does not have an extensive roster of deleted scenes. “There actually aren’t that many deleted scenes in this movie, surprisingly,” Cretton declared.
When asked if he had envisioned a Spider-Man: Brand New Day cut that was longer than the theatrical version, which clocks at two hours and 24 minutes (with credits), the 47-year-old filmmaker said, “I think the first cut of this movie was a little closer to three hours, maybe two hours and 50 minutes or something, but that’s not the length that I wanted it to be.”
“It wasn’t ever a battle of trying to keep things in the movie that I wanted. I think the movie is the right length, that it should be right now.” He further clarified that “that’s more of an assembly cut,” he added.
Despite Cretton’s efficient approach, Spider-Man: Brand New Day does feature several deleted scenes, as the director himself disclosed.
Talking about one such sequence in a previous interview, Cretton noted, “There was a whole other scene that ended up getting cut from the movie that we’re going to- we were going to throw a whole bunch of villains into this one giant fight scene that ended up getting cut. We were looking at the old classics, and it was fun, though. We got to design a lot of them.”
As to what scenes made it into the final cut, fans will have to go to their nearest theaters to catch Spider-Man 4 on July 31, 2026.
