Wonder Man Season 2 may arrive sooner than fans expected after the show’s director offered a promising production update. Destin Daniel Cretton teased when cameras could start rolling on the next chapter of the MCU’s Hollywood comedy.
Destin Daniel Cretton hopes to film Wonder Man Season 2 this year
Director Destin Daniel Cretton offered a brief update on Wonder Man Season 2 in an interview with Collider. When asked whether cameras could begin rolling this year, Cretton responded, “I hope so. We’ll leave it at that.” The superhero comedy received a renewal back in March after a strong critical reception.
Co-created by Cretton and showrunner Andrew Guest, Wonder Man followed Simon Williams’ Hollywood journey. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II starred as a man with superpowers trying to land a coveted lead role. The series took focus away from the wider Marvel world to tell a more grounded story. Abdul-Mateen earned the first acting Emmy nomination for the MCU since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The Season 1 finale wrapped up on a cliffhanger for its two central characters. Simon shadowed a security guard at the Department of Damage Control during the finale. He then used that opportunity to break Trevor Slattery out of prison. Ben Kingsley portrayed Slattery as Williams’ surprising new friend throughout the season. Simon essentially threw away his own career to save his friend after the in-universe movie premiered.
If production does begin before the end of 2026, the series could see a quicker turnaround. It could arrive by late 2027. However, a post-Secret Wars release in 2028 would be more realistic. This pace would still not match something like Daredevil: Born Again’s production timeline. However, Marvel fans would still be happy to see another live-action show delivering its second season after Loki and Daredevil: Born Again.
Cretton currently has several projects in development across film and television. His live-action Naruto adaptation at Netflix is actively searching for its cast. He also returns to the Marvel spotlight with Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31. The film stars Tom Holland alongside Jon Bernthal, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Mark Ruffalo.
