BBC News has reported that Justice Elizabeth Raper has dismissed a lawsuit earlier filed by Charlotte MacInnes. She had claimed that Wilson defamed her in social media posts. She noted that MacInnes changed her account about the events that occurred. It was ruled that Wilson’s social media posts weren’t defamatory and did not harm MacInnes’ reputation. She also stated that her case failed to establish the harm caused. As Wilson prevailed in the case, MacInnes was ordered to pay her a certain amount of fees.
MacInnes’ lawsuit alleged that Wilson’s posts portrayed her as dishonest, implying that she withdrew a sexual harassment complaint against The Deb producer, Amanda Ghost, to help her career. However, she has denied making a complaint in the first place.
Wilson took to Instagram Stories to thank the legal system for the legal victory. She also mentioned that she looks forward to moving on. Moreover, she shared a lengthy note in which she reflects on being passionate about her professional life while sharing the ups and downs of making The Deb.
She wrote, “I know sometimes what I do can be ‘silly’ but to me it’s super important and I take my job really seriously. I love doing what I do and am so passionate about the things that I make and the brilliant people I work with. THE DEB, an Aussie musical comedy, was my dream job – my directorial DEB-UT – my directorial debut, a celebration of Australian stories, and something I poured years of passion into alongside an incredible cast and crew.”
She further added, “Seeing that journey disrupted has been incredibly difficult, but I have always believed it was a story worth telling. This process has taught me a lot. It has tested me, but it has also reinforced something I’ve always believed. I want to live my life standing up for what I believe is right, while continuing to create work that brings people joy.” She further expressed gratitude for the opportunity to tell stories. She concluded by thanking everyone for their support and shared excitement for a new chapter ahead.
