Eagle-eyed fans have spotted that one of the MCU’s recent additions has got a massive upgrade in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. The film will see multiple superhero teams come together to save the multiverse while facing off against Doctor Doom. The trailer has already revealed some surprising returns and new looks for iconic characters.

Fans have spotted that during the Yelena vs. Mystique fight in the trailer, a brief moment shows the Fantastic Four’s H.E.R.B.I.E. in the background. While it’s a very quick glimpse, it’s enough to spot that the robot has been upgraded since its debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The glimpse shows H.E.R.B.I.E with a new pair of eyes and an upgraded body shell.
Last year’s Fantastic Four film showed that H.E.R.B.I.E can swap out and install new parts based on the task at hand. When the group goes out into space, H.E.R.B.I.E installs new modules to handle tasks related to interstellar travel on the ship. By the end of the film, H.E.R.B.I.E has taken a lot of damage after being smashed by Galactus’ hands at the Baxter Building.
Following the film’s release, one rumor suggested that Marvel originally planned to kill the robot in the film’s finale, but changed its decision. The robot became a fan favorite following the film’s release, which was also well received.
The trailer shows the Fantastic Four arriving at the X-Mansion with the Avengers, which is set in a different universe. H.E.R.B.I.E’s new look is likely related to the robot undertaking multiversal travel, along with the rest of the heroic group. It remains to be seen whether the robot will participate in any of the film’s major battles directly. Besides H.E.R.B.I.E, The Fantastic Four also get upgraded looks in the film.
