What Do We See in the Avengers: Doomsday Poster?

The new Avengers: Doomsday poster features Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom standing in front of a massive, sprawling mural. A woman and a small child are seen in it; fans have begun to deconstruct the meaning.

One of the prevailing theories about Doom in the Doomsday saga has been that his actions could stem from the tragic loss of his wife and child. The poster doesn’t officially confirm this. However, it seems to strengthen the possibility by prominently featuring these two figures on the mural Doom is seemingly observing. His stance and the dark imagery suggest that the figures are deeply personal to him. It could be part of a much grander, multiversal plan that’s now being put into motion.

At the moment, Marvel hasn’t shared Victor von Doom’s full backstory for the upcoming film, leaving much room for interpretation regarding the mural.

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer gives fans a brief view of the film’s massive multiverse plot. Robert Downey Jr. is seen as the villainous Doctor Doom and shows just how much of a threat he can be. In one sequence, Doom raises two fingers to effortlessly block Thor’s flying Stormbreaker, setting up the character as the biggest challenge for the heroes.

Additionally, the trailer showcases a broken X-Mansion under a fraying sky, calling back X-Men characters such as Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops and Channing Tatum’s Gambit. They meet MCU heroes such as the Fantastic Four, Shang-Chi and Sam Wilson’s Captain America on the New Avengers Tower as various universes start to collide.

For the unversed, Marvel Studios will present Avengers: Doomsday as part of the final phase of the Multiverse Saga. Releasing on December 18, 2026, it is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and will follow the massive crossover event of Avengers: Endgame. This will be the biggest crossover event from Marvel Studios since Avengers: Endgame.
