Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Promise Should Reassure Avengers: Doomsday Fans

Tom Hiddleston has offered a reassuring update for Marvel fans ahead of Avengers: Doomsday. As anticipation continues to build around Loki‘s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor has addressed how the upcoming film will handle the character following the events of the Disney+ series.

His latest comments suggest that Loki’s story will move forward without resetting the ending that concluded his journey on television.

Tom Hiddleston says Avengers: Doomsday won’t undo Loki’s hard-won ending

Tom Hiddleston has addressed growing questions about Loki’s return in Avengers: Doomsday, assuring fans that the character’s next appearance will build on the ending of the Disney+ series. After Loki concluded with the God of Mischief taking on the role of protector of the multiverse, many wondered whether the upcoming Marvel film would undo that conclusion. Hiddleston says that will not be the case.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, in support of his upcoming National Geographic docudrama Pompeii: Out of Time, the actor explained that he views Avengers: Doomsday as a continuation of Loki’s story.

Reflecting on the conclusion of Loki Season 2, Hiddleston said the series felt like a complete ending for the character. However, when Marvel approached him about returning for Doomsday, he was told the film would begin from that point.

Hiddleston explained, “Loki felt like a closure. And when Marvel called about Avengers: Doomsday, it was going to be starting from that end point. So there was no sense of unstitching or undoing all of that development. That development still stands as a place to begin.”

The Loki returning in Avengers: Doomsday is the alternate-timeline version introduced in Avengers: Endgame, after the original God of Mischief was killed by Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. Hiddleston later reprised that variant in the Disney+ series Loki, which ran for two seasons.

Interestingly, Hiddleston’s work on the Marvel show heavily influenced his new non-fiction series; the actor previously brushed up on his Latin for a Season 1 episode set in Pompeii, which ultimately inspired him to executive-produce the new Nat Geo project alongside his Loki producing partner, Kevin R. Wright.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
