The End of Oak Street Director Gives Strong Hint About Movie’s Secret Crossover Twist

The director of The End of Oak Street is being too vague in denying a secret crossover. In a recent interview, David Robert Mitchell neither confirmed nor denied the crossover rumor. Instead, his comments left fans and audiences with more questions.

What did The End of Oak Street director tease about the movie’s potential crossover twist?

The End of Oak Street’s director, David Robert Mitchell, recently sat with SFX Magazine. During the interview, he was asked if his upcoming movie is part of the J.J. Abrams-produced Cloverfield franchise. He neither agreed nor denied this. “Here’s what I can tell you. I wrote the script before I ever personally talked with J.J. You can make of that whatever you will.”

In the movie, a “mysterious cosmic event” transports Oak Street to an unknown, dinosaur-infested location, and the Platt family quickly realizes that the only way they can survive is to stick together. This mysterious event is being linked to the Cloverfield franchise by fans, especially given Abrams’s involvement in producing the movie through his Bad Robot Productions.

In response to how the neighborhood ended up there and its connection to Cloverfield, Mitchell stated, “There are certainly some answers in there. Don’t want to over-explain, and I think it’s a subjective thing as to whether or not someone has enough, but I believe that’s the case.”

Moreover, the dinosaur movie was previously named “Flowervale Lane.” In one theory, fans have connected the words “Flower” to “Clover” and “Vale” to “Field”. This suggested hidden meanings and sparked rumors of the connection.

The production is known for hiding secrets within its movies’ premises, as it did with 10 Cloverfield Lane. Just like this movie, 10 Cloverfield Lane also underwent a title change. In addition, a “big reveal” at the end tied the movie to the Cloverfield universe.

The End of Oak Street stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery. This will also mark Mitchell’s first PG-13 movie. It is slated for release in theaters in the United States on August 14, 2026.
