The new sci-fi movie featuring Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell has been delayed by nearly a year. Helmed by J.J. Abrams, the project was set to arrive in late 2026.
When is the new release date for J.J. Abrams and Glen Powell’s sci-fi movie?
Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell’s The Great Beyond won’t come out on November 13, 2026. It’s now been pushed to next year and will release on October 1, 2027, reports Deadline.
Back in April, The Great Beyond debuted its teaser trailer at CinemaCon. While the visuals were captivating, the clip didn’t reveal much regarding the plot or the overall storyline. However, the sci-fi movie will be about an unknown or a hidden world. Ortega and Powell’s characters are expected to embark on an exploratory journey.
The ensemble cast of the film also features Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Barbie), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Captain Marvel, Unthinkable, The Hateful Eight), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda), and Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie).
Abrams is serving as the writer and director. He is also producing the project alongside Tommy Gormley. The Great Beyond marks Abrams’ return to making something based on original material.
During the movie’s presentation, he revealed that he had been thinking about making it for a long time. Speaking about the massive world-building involved, Abram said, “I didn’t want it to just be one thing, not just a thriller or a mystery or a love story or sci-fi. I wanted it to be a bit of all of those things, and I wanted it to be big.”
As for Ortega, she’s got various other projects coming up as well besides The Great Beyond. Next up, she will appear in Taika Waititi’s sci-fi drama, titled Klara and the Sun. She will also be seen in Leos Carax’s upcoming road movie, Lily May B.
Meanwhile, Powell was recently seen in the thriller comedy How to Make a Killing. It also featured Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, and Topher Grace, among others. He will next appear in a comedy movie directed by Judd Apatow, titled The Comeback King.
