Masters of the Universe’s Surprise Post-Credits Cameo Almost Didn’t Happen

While one of the post-credits scenes of Masters of the Universe finally introduced fans to a beloved He-Man character on the big screen, the unexpected cameo came very close to not happening at all. In a recent interview, director Travis Knight revealed that the inclusion of Prince Adam’s twin sister, She-Ra, in the movie was actually an eleventh-hour decision.

Travis Knight says Masters of the Universe’s post-credits scene was a last-minute addition

While speaking with GamesRadar+, Knight explained that even though he had always envisioned She-Ra to be in the He-Man movie, the sequence was put together “at the end of the shoot.”

“I wanted to get her in the movie, [but] there was a very complicated rights thing,” he noted. “We did that with like no money, too. That was at the end of the shoot. We were just scrambling around trying to build a set and put a costume together because we finally got the rights to do it, and I mean, she looks great.”

In addition to the post-credits scene’s last-minute addition, Knight’s desire to keep She-Ra’s debut a secret prompted the filmmaker to omit the sequence from early screenings of Masters of the Universe. He revealed, “We didn’t show it to anybody. Like the studio hadn’t even seen the finished version of that.”

While there is still uncertainty regarding a sequel, Knight has confirmed that, if approved, a follow-up would have a significant role for She-Ra. “She is a character that is hugely important in the mythology of this world. If we told another story set in this universe, she would absolutely play a huge part of it. I know exactly where that would go,” the Bumblebee director said.

In the Masters of the Universe post-credits scene, Lauren Saliu donned the mantle of the Princess of Power. However, Knight knows what actor he wants for the part in the proposed sequel. “I know exactly who I would reach out to to play She-Ra. I can’t jinx it, so I can’t say it. But I know exactly who it should be,” the director teased.

Released on June 5, 2026, Masters of the Universe is currently playing in theaters.
