Steven Spielberg Reveals Disclosure Day’s John Williams Score Details

Steven Spielberg has revealed details of John Williams‘ score for Disclosure Day. The 94-year-old composer took an unusually restrained approach. Speaking about the forthcoming sci-fi thriller, the director explained how Williams’ music will be experienced.

Spielberg recently shared John Williams’ own words when describing his method for Disclosure Day.

“He said, ‘This time I’m going to write music not to lead the film, I’m going to write music under the film to give it the slight nudge forward.'” The director pointed to Indiana Jones as a benchmark for Williams’ more dominant, theme-driven style. “But it’s still pure John Williams genius,” Spielberg added (via Discussing Film).

This information offers a rare glimpse into the working philosophy of a composer whose melodies have defined iconic cinema. Where the Raiders of the Lost Ark march pulls audiences along by the collar, the Disclosure Day score appears designed to operate in the shadows of David Koepp’s screenplay.

Audiences will have the chance to hear the results when Disclosure Day opens on June 12. Back Lot Music will release the official soundtrack album digitally the same day, with pre-orders now live on Amazon and other major platforms. CD and vinyl editions would reportedly be made available later by Waxwork Records. One track is already available to stream.

Early reviews of Disclosure Day have commended Williams’ contribution. Critic Tessa Smith called the movie “ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL,” adding that “the score perfectly elevates every single scene.”

The collaboration between Steven Spielberg and John Williams stretches back half a century, encompassing Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and Schindler’s List, among dozens of others. Disclosure Day represents their latest one.

The film follows a whistleblower racing to expose a government conspiracy and bring about humanity’s open contact with alien life. Emily Blunt stars as Margaret Fairchild, a meteorologist and former journalist brought into the unfolding crisis. Josh O’Connor plays Daniel Kellner, a cybersecurity expert who triggers the countdown to disclosure. Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo round out the principal cast.
