Scary Movie 6 Isn’t the Only Sequel on Anna Faris’ Mind: ‘There’s Interest’

Anna Faris teased the idea of reviving a cult favourite from 2008, apart from Scary Movie 6. The actress revealed that there is interest in bringing Shelley Darlingson back to the screen.

Anna Faris talks about potential sequel to The House Bunny

Faris, currently on the press circuit for her return to the horror-parody franchise Scary Movie 6, confirmed that there are early conversations around a sequel to The House Bunny.

The original Happy Madison production saw her star as a displaced Playboy Bunny who transforms a misfit sorority. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Anna Faris acknowledged the project’s enduring legacy. “I would love to talk to you about House Bunny stuff. And it turns out, there’s interest,” Faris said. “I never thought that dream would ever be realized either, and it’s too soon to say anything, but it turns out that movie is beloved, and that character too.”

The original film, directed by Fred Wolf, cast Faris as Shelley Darlingson, a Playboy Bunny evicted from Hugh Hefner’s mansion. She lands at a struggling university sorority, where she becomes house mother to a group of socially awkward students.

The ensemble featured an early-career Emma Stone alongside Colin Hanks, Kat Dennings, Katharine McPhee, and Rumer Willis. Parts of the production were filmed at the Playboy Mansion itself, with cameos from Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, Hefner, Kendra Wilkinson, and Bridget Marquardt.

The House Bunny had a modest commercial success but has since been reassessed as a stealth feminist comedy. Critics have pointed to its unorthodox treatment of female identity. The film refuses to mock its lead character for being hyper-feminine. Instead, it insists that a woman can love pink, pursue a career in modelling, and still possess intelligence and ambition.

Now, news of The House Bunny sequel talks comes as Anna Faris reclaims another iconic role. She reprises Cindy Campbell in Scary Movie 6, opening in cinemas this Friday. The film, directed by Michael Tiddes, reunites her with franchise stalwarts Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Regina Hall.
