Ryan Gosling & Natalie Portman’s Underrated Gem Is Leaving Netflix Soon

A star-studded romantic drama is set to leave Netflix, giving viewers limited time to watch it. The film never found a large audience in theaters but has built a loyal following over the years.

With streaming libraries constantly changing, another notable title is preparing to exit the platform. The acclaimed but divisive drama, Song to Song, features an impressive ensemble cast and comes from one of Hollywood’s most respected filmmakers.

Song to Song leaves Netflix in June

Terrence Malick’s Song to Song is scheduled to leave Netflix on June 17 (via What’s on Netflix). Released in 2017, the film blends romance, music, and drama against the backdrop of Austin, Texas’ music scene. It wasn’t a box-office smash, but over the years, it has built a loyal following among viewers who love Malick’s dreamy visuals and artsy storytelling.

In the movie, Ryan Gosling plays BV, a musician trying to find his place, while Rooney Mara’s Faye is an aspiring songwriter chasing her dreams. Things get complicated when their lives become tangled with Cook, a powerful music producer played by Michael Fassbender, and Rhonda, played by Natalie Portman. What follows is a rollercoaster of love, ambition, temptation, and heartbreak. Everyone is chasing something, and those choices create plenty of drama along the way.

The movie also features Cate Blanchett, Holly Hunter, and Val Kilmer in supporting roles. Malick wrote and directed the project, while Sarah Green, Nicolas Gonda, and Ken Kao served as producers. One of its biggest talking points was Malick’s free-flowing filmmaking approach.

Critics and audiences were divided. The film holds a 43% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, while its audience score stands at 36%. On IMDb, it carries a 5.6 out of 10 rating. Even so, Song to Song remains an interesting entry in Malick’s filmography and a rare collaboration between several major Hollywood stars. Once it leaves Netflix on June 17, viewers will need to look elsewhere to stream it.
