Walden Media will make a college hoops feature based on the true story of Frank and Isaac Gildea, the only father-son duo to ever play together on a college team, reports Variety.
Brad Gann is writing the script, and Mayhem Pictures partners Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray are producing. That trio teamed on the Mark Wahlberg starrer Invincible. Orly Anderson is also producing; Jordan Rush is executive producer.
The film will be distributed by 20th Century Fox through the joint venture Fox Walden.
Frank Gildea dropped out of college in 1981 to support his family, but rejoined his alma mater, College of the Redwoods, two decades later. By then, his son was attending the school and playing for the basketball squad. The elder Gildea was able to finish out his eligibility, joining his son on the squad that won the school’s first conference championship in 27 years.
