Among the many records that 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine broke during its theatrical run, there was one title that Hugh Jackman ended up losing to Wesley Snipes. However, now that the Australian superstar has become aware of that fact, Jackman has jokingly expressed that he would’ve “banned” Snipes from reprising his role of Blade in Deadpool’s debut MCU movie in order to keep the record for himself.
What Hugh Jackman said Wesley Snipes and Deadpool & Wolverine
While speaking with BuzzFeed UK during a promotional interview for his new film, Song Sung Blue, Jackman learned that he had “held the Guinness World Record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero,” for his stint as Wolverine, until Snipes appeared in Deadpool 3 as Blade.
When asked if he now regrets having allowed Snipes to join Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman put on his angry face and jokingly replied, “100%. If I had known, I would have banned him. I would’ve written him out.”
The Academy Award nominee carried on the act by taking out his phone from his pocket and stating, “I’m literally defriending him now.”
The interviewer then questioned Jackman about whether he wants to “take the title back.” The 57-year-old actor responded with a witty quip, noting, “Now it’s just a competition of who’s going to live longer. Actually, I’ll put my money on Wesley.”
Hugh Jackman made his debut as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, two years after Snipes appeared as Blade for the first time. Many believed that Snipes had hung up his swords following 2004’s Blade: Trinity, which made Jackman the longest-serving live-action Marvel superhero.
However, Snipes’ return as the Daywalker in Deadpool & Wolverine meant that Jackman had to hand over the record to his co-star. At the time of writing, both Jackman and Snipes are rumored to make a comeback as Wolverine and Blade, respectively, with recent speculations claiming that the latter will return for “one last time” in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
