The “2007 MTV Movie Awards” surrenders to Mike Myers with the coveted “MTV Generation Award” for his amazing contribution to Hollywood and for entertaining the MTV audience for years. From generation to generation, Mike Myers has kept the MTV viewers crying with laughter since bursting onto the scene in his first major film role in Wayne’s World in 1992 through this year’s Shrek The Third. The “MTV Generation Award” is the MTV Movie Awards’ highest honor, acknowledging an actor who has captured the attention of the MTV audience throughout their career. Past recipients include Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey. Hosted by Sarah Silverman, the “2007 MTV Movie Awards” airs LIVE on June 3rd at 8:00pm/7c from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA.
“We have an ogre, an international spy of mystery, a rhyming cat, and a rock star wannabe with his own local cable access show … now that’s a guest list!” said Christina Norman, President, MTV. “It’s a party, and Mike is our guest of honor. On Sunday our audience will present him with the MTV Generation Award for all the years he has made us laugh, captured our imagination, and left us leaving the theater with a smile.”
“From performing, to hosting, to winning the desirable golden bucket of popcorn, I have accomplished it all at the MTV Movie Awards,” said Mike Myers. “The only thing I had left to do was win the MTV Generation Award and now I’m set. Thank you, MTV.”
Mike Myers, one of the most multifaceted performers of his generation, has brought a distinct array of characters to life on both film and television. For his groundbreaking work on “Saturday Night Live,” Myers was nominated for an Emmy for “Best Performance in a Comedy or Variety Show” and won an Emmy for “Best Writing for Comedy or Variety Show.”
Myers successfully brought his popular SNL character, Wayne Campbell, to the big screen in 1992 with Wayne’s World, followed a year later with Wayne’s World 2. On the heels of the Wayne’s World empire, Myers appeared in a range of films including 54, for which he earned critical acclaim. In 1997, Myers wrote, produced, and starred in his first of three Austin Power’s films, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. This was followed in 1999 by Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and in 2002 by Austin Powers in Goldmember. Additionally, Myers is recognized as the lead voice in the 2001 Dreamworks animated feature Shrek. The tale continued in 2004 with Shrek 2, and the third installment, Shrek the Third can now be seen in theatres nationwide.
As previously announced, Rihanna featuring Jay-Z and British singer/songwriter, Amy Winehouse will take the stage to debut new music and deliver eagerly awaited live performances. Additionally, Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Biel, John Krasinski, Mandy Moore, Robin Williams, Justin Long, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Josh Duhamel, Samuel L. Jackson, Amanda Bynes, Chris Tucker, Katherine Heigl, Seth Rogen, Shia LaBeouf, Michael Chiklis, John Travolta, Zac Efron, Tyrese Gibson, Andy Samberg, Chris Evans and Ioan Gruffudd join the growing list of presenters at the “2007 MTV Movie Awards.” And MTV welcomes Victoria Beckham as she makes the “2007 MTV Movie Awards” her first official television appearance since moving to the states.
Up for the legendary golden popcorn at the “2007 MTV Movie Awards” are 300, leading the way with 5 nominations, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, receiving four nominations. Also vying for an award are Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Kazakhstan, Blades Of Glory, and The Devil Wears Prada, with three nominations each. MTV will also celebrate the first-ever user generated category, “Best Movie Spoof” where viewers have the opportunity to submit their own original movie shorts parodying films from the past year via Yahoo! Movies as well as another new category, “Best Summer Movie You Haven’t Seen Yet” giving a nod to upcoming summer blockbusters.
