Box Office Results: Civil War Fends Off Competition

A24’s controversial Civil War claimed the domestic box office for the second week, collecting $11.1 million (-56%) in its sophomore frame, per Deadline. The title has accrued $44.8M so far.

This week’s two new releases did not fare as well, namely Universal’s Abigail, which earned $10.2M from 3,384 theaters, and the Guy Ritchie-directed Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which finished in fourth place with just $9M from 2,845 theaters. Audiences are either A) saving their money for Fall Guy in a few weeks or B) not interested in movies they can watch at home in a month.

Still, Godzilla x Kong continues to perform well, amassing $9.455M in its fourth week for a strong $171.6M domestic haul. Globally, the big-budget creature feature is nearing $500M.

This week sees Zendaya’s Challengers going up against re-releases of Universal’s The Mummy and 20th Century Fox’s Alien.
