Avatar: The Last Airbender Animated Movie Announced, Dave Bautista to Voice Villain

Paramount Pictures has announced a new Avatar: The Last Airbender movie is in development.

Per Variety, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Studios announced at CinemaCon that a new animated Avatar: The Last Airbender movie is in the works. The film’s working title is Aang: The Last Airbender.

Dave Bautista will voice the villain in the forthcoming movie, while Eric Nam will voice Aang.

The cast also includes Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Roman Zaragoza.

Plot details remain under wraps at this time. Lauren Montgomery, who worked on the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, is directing the film, while William Mata serves as co-director.  Series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are executive producing alongside Eric Coleman.

More animated Avatar: The Last Airbender movies are in the works

Aang: The Last Airbender is one of three animated Avatar movies coming from Paramount and Nickelodeon, which was announced in June 2022 (via Variety). “As original creators Mike and Bryan expand the Avatar universe with us, we’re keeping it all in the family with Lauren bringing the same kind of expert, beautiful work she did on the original series to her new directing duties on the forthcoming theatrical,” Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation’s Ramsey Naito said at the time.

Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005. The fan-favorite series ran for three seasons and follows Aang and his friends — Katara, Sokka, and Toph — as they attempt to take down the villainous Fire Nation. Avatar: The Last Airbender was followed by a sequel series, The Legend of Korra, which premiered in 2012.

The series was turned into a poorly received live-action movie in 2010, which was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Netflix also recently released the first season of a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, while more seasons are being planned.

Aang: The Last Airbender releases on October 10, 2025, from Paramount.
