Sam Mendes’ Beatles Movies Will All Release in the Same Year

After being announced just over a week ago, it’s been revealed that Sam Mendes’ four movies based on each of The Beatles will all be released in the same year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, all four films are being planned to release in 2027. Filming on the pictures will begin in 2025 in the United Kingdom, though there’s currently no writer attached to the projects at this time. The outlet notes that the budget will likely not be known until the scripts are complete, though it’s expected to be a “large-scale undertaking.”

“You have to match the boldness of the idea with a bold release strategy,” Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman told the outlet on the topic of the movies’ releases. “There hasn’t been an enterprise like this before, and you can’t think about it in traditional releasing terms.”

Sam Mendes will direct all four movies, with each one following one specific band member’s point of view. The project marks the very first time that The Beatles (Paul McCartneyRingo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison) and Apple Corps Ltd. have granted the full life story and music rights to a scripted movie.

What did Sam Mendes say about making the upcoming Beatles movies?

“I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” Mendes said when the projects were first announced.
