Godzilla Minus One Director on Steven Spielberg: ‘I Met God’

Godzilla Minus One has become a massive hit, and recently, the director of the film took to social media to reveal one iconic film figure who praised the film.

Takashi Yamazaki recently took to Twitter to reveal that he met legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, whom he affectionately referred to as “god.”

He said Spielberg told him he saw Godzilla Minus One three times, and the conversation made him cry. Yamazaki even said he gave Spielberg a Godzilla toy figure in their talk.

“I’ve met GOD. What am I going to do with all this? I’m seriously crying,” said Yamazaki in his post (via translation). “And Spielberg saw GMO 3 times. He told me he liked the characters in the film. I gave him a Godzilla figure, and he was so happy when he took it..”

What is Godzilla Minus One about?

“Post war Japan is at its lowest point when a new crisis emerges in the form of a giant monster, baptized in the horrific power of the atomic bomb,” reads the official synopsis of the film.

Godzilla Minus One is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who previously worked on the visual effects for Shin Godzilla. It stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki. The marks the first new Toho Godzilla film since 2016’s Shin Godzilla.

Besides Godzilla Minus One, Legendary’s upcoming sequel to the Godzilla vs. Kong film film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 12, 2024. The project, titled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is once again directed by Adam Wingard. It is being led by Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, and more.
