Johnny Depp Eyed to Play Satan in New Terry Gilliam Movie

Director and former Monty Python member Terry Gilliam has said that he wants Johnny Depp to play the role of Satan in his new movie.

Variety reported the new information that Gilliam revealed while attending the Red Sea Film Festival. While describing the general plot of The Carnival at the End of Days — his upcoming comedy movie — the filmmaker casually stated that he’d like Depp to play the role of the devil and later told the outlet that he feels confident about it.

“God wipes out humanity and the only character who wants to save them is Satan, and Johnny Depp plays Satan,” Gilliam said. “This is a simple tale of God wiping out humanity for f—ing up his beautiful garden Earth … There’s only one character who’s trying to save humanity and that’s Satan, because without humanity he’s lost his job and he’s an eternal character and so to live without a job is terrible. So he finds some young people and he tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God still gets to wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.”

Who is writing The Carnival at the End of Days?

Christopher Brett Bailey is co-writing the film with Gilliam. The director’s most recent movie was 2018’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote — an adventure comedy film that famously took nearly three decades to make and has two different documentaries (Lost in La Mancha and He Dreams of Giants) about its development. The final film ended up starring Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce, Stellan Skarsgård, and Olga Kurylenko.
