Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Director Departs MCU Movie

The director of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has left the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, though will remain on some other projects.

Deadline has reported that Destin Daniel Cretton has departed Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and will no longer be directing the film. The outlet notes that this is an amicable exit and that the filmmaker will be focusing on his other projects at Marvel Studios. Though he left the upcoming Avengers movie, Cretton is still set to direct Shang-Chi 2 and executive produce the Disney+ Wonder Man series.

The Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’s release date is now set for May 1, 2026. It was previously dated a year prior for May 2, 2025. It joined a lengthy list of Marvel delays as many movies saw rewrites and were impacted by the entertainment industry strikes that took place throughout 2023. Just recently, Deadpool 3 was pushed back to July 26, 2024.

What phase of the MCU will the two upcoming Avengers movies be in?

According to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige during a panel, both of the new Avengers films are currently planned to be the final entries in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will begin with the introduction of the Fantastic Four into the MCU.
