The Exorcist: Believer MPA Rating Revealed for Iconic Horror Movie Sequel

David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist: Believer isn’t likely to be reining in the series’ nasty streak if the movie’s MPA rating is anything to go by.

The direct sequel to the late William Friedkin‘s 1973 classic The Exorcist has been rated R for some violent content, disturbing images, language, and sexual references.

That may not tell us the whole story, but with that rating and given how bloody and violent Green’s Halloween films are, it’s safe to say The Exorcist: Believer isn’t defanging the franchise.

A New Chapter in Terror

The legacy sequel connects the events of the original film with a brand new story set in the modern day. Leslie Odom Jr. plays Victor Fielding, a widowed father raising his daughter alone for the past 12 years. One day his daughter Angela and her friend go missing in the woods and return three days later with no memory of what occurred.

Events after this escalate to the point where Victor must find help with a frightening demonic problem, and turns to Chris MacNeill, the mother of Regan MacNeill from the first film. Ellen Burstyn reprises her role as Chris.

The movie is the first of a new trilogy, with the sequel The Exorcist: Deceiver already having a release date of April 18, 2025. The Exorcist: Believer will be summoned to theaters on October 13, 2023.
