Brie Larson to Lead 21 Jump Street Spin-off Movie

According to insider Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel), Sony Pictures is reportedly developing a 21 Jump Street spin-off movie that would center around Molly Tracey, who was portrayed by Oscar winner Brie Larson in the 2012 action comedy. Further details about the rumored project are still being kept under wraps, but this won’t be the first time that the studio tried to develop a female-led spin-off to the buddy cop franchise.

In 2018, it was reported that Girls’ Trip star Tiffany Haddish and Crazy Rich Asians’ Awkwafina were in negotiations to lead director Rodney Rothman’s upcoming female-driven 21 Jump Street reboot.

Who was Brie Larson’s Molly Tracey in 21 Jump Street?

21 Jump Street starred Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, who both portrayed as police officers that went undercover as high school students in order to investigate the outbreak of a new synthetic drug. Larson’s Molly Tracey was one of the high school students who helped Hill’s Schmidt and Tatum’s Jenko with their case. The character also served as Schmidt’s love interest.

The 2012 blockbuster film was an adaptation of Johnny Depp’s series of the same name. It was both a critical and commercial success with a worldwide gross of over $200 million. The franchise expanded with its 2014 sequel 22 Jump Street, which featured the comedic duo pretending to be college students.
