The Passion of the Christ 2 Reportedly Begins Filming This Year

Nearly 20 years after the release of The Passion of the Christ, it seems the sequel to the biblical epic is set to start filming rather soon.

The sequel, titled The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection, is said to start filming this spring, according to World of Reel. The report also notes that Jim Caviezel is set to reprise his role as Jesus Christ from The Passion of the Christ.

“It’s been a long time coming, but I’m hearing Mel Gibson will finally be shooting The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection in a few months,” reports Jordan Ruimy. “A late spring production is currently being eyed with Jim Caviezel set to return in the role of Jesus.”

The Passion of the Christ was released in 2004. Directed by Mel Gibson, the movie depicts the final days of Jesus Christ’s life and his crucifixion. The film made $612 million on a budget of $30 million, establishing it as an enormous financial success. Critical reception was mixed, with critics being split on the brutal depiction of the crucifixion and some accusing the film of being anti-Semitic.
