Although he’s currently working on the second chapter of his “Great North Trilogy” with Yoga Hosers, Kevin Smith has revealed that a return to his “View Askewniverse” is finally moving forward as Clerks III has secured financing! Smith made the announcement on the latest episode of his Hollywood Babble-On podcast (via /Film).
“‘Tusk’ was the absolute bridge to ‘Clerks III,'” says Smith. “Because of ‘Tusk,’ I got my financing for ‘Clerks III’. A year and change ago I was desperately trying to get ‘Clerks III’ made for the 20th anniversary… I must have reeked of [desperation], because I couldnt fing find money and s–t. But it was ‘Tusk,’ with people going Holy fk, what else do you have? I was like, ‘Clerks III!’ and theyre like. Done! Everybody thats like, He failed, he failed! Im like, Thank you, I failed into Clerks III!”
Jeff Anderson and Brian O’Halloran played Randal Graves and Dante Hicks in the original 1994 Clerks. A pair of young slackers working minimum wage customer service jobs, they reprised their roles for a short-lived animated series and then returned to the big screen in 2006’s Clerks II. It’s a pretty safe bet that they’ll be back on the big screen for this trilogy capper (at one time planned to be Smith’s very last film).
