Batgirl Set Photo Hints at Robin’s DCEU Introduction

DC’s upcoming Batgirl film is set to begin production soon in Glasgow, Scotland, and a recent mural that will be featured in the film seems to hint at the return of a very significant character.

Fans spotted a crew moving a mural onto the set of what is to be Gotham City in the upcoming film. On the worn-down mural was the legendary figure of Batman, but next to him was Robin, the sidekick to Batman and someone we have not seen in an official DCEU film as of yet.

While it’s unknown whether or not Robin will be involved in the actual film, his inclusion in art form seems to suggest that Warner Bros. and DC are ready to bring the Boy Wonder into the DC Extended Universe. So far, the only mentions of Robin’s existence in any DC films were the reference to his murder at the hands of the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Batgirl will center on Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. The character was first seen in the 1967 Batman series with the late Yvonne Craig playing Barbara. Batgirl’s first comic book appearance was in Detective Comics #357 by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino.

Batgirl is being helmed by Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a screenplay by Christina Hodson (BumblebeeBirds of PreyThe Flash) with Kristin Burr (Cruella) producing. The movie will release exclusively on HBO Max.

Batgirl/Barbara Gordon’s last appearance in a live-action big-screen feature was in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, released in 1997 and starring Alicia Silverstone in the role alongside George Clooney’s Batman and Chris O’Donnell’s Robin.
