According to a recent report from GiantFreakinRobot, Rogen has signed on to lead the film, which is reportedly in development now at Illumination. Illumination is also working on the upcoming Super Mario film, which Rogen will appear in as Donkey Kong alongside Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach, respectively.

The report mentions that after appearing in the upcoming film, Rogen’s Donkey Kong will be getting his own solo film, although details of the plot or any other information are currently unclear. The report does mention that Fred Armisen, who is set to voice Cranky Kong in the upcoming Super Mario film, will also be involved in the new project, although that is also unconfirmed at this time.

The rest of the voice cast for the upcoming Super Mario film includes Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike (which was previously announced). Mario’s traditional voice actor, Charles Martinet, will also be involved and have “surprise cameos in the movie.”
